Parents, apartments versus a house near Atlanta, Georgia?

my boyfriend and i are looking to move into an apartment for he time being so that we can save up enough money for a down payment on a house. the only problem is, when i go looking at the apartments, there's always bad ratings for hem and being that me and him will be bringing a child into the world soon as we are trying to have a baby, i wanna bring our child up in the best home ever. we will be living outside of Atlanta, Georgia. does anyone have suggestions as far as what we should do? should we just take out a loan for a house that costs less than $100,000 so we can make payments ever month? or just live in he apartment, even though pretty much all apartment complexes down here don have he best rating?
