Tailors: sewing problems!!!!?

every time i am sewing, my hems always come out really messy, i dont know if its because of the thread i use if its too thick or what but i dont want it always coming out so messy. also, the thread keeps breaking every few seconds in my sewing machine, again is it because i am using the wrong thread? somebody please help me.
