Is 'Dracula' By Bram Stroker a good book?
It is my favorite book, hands down. I've read it what has to be a dozen times by now. The treatment of monster-hunting is terrific (both scientific and mystifying), the switching between first-person accounts is absolutely fascinating (nothing goes without a satisfactory and sometimes thrilling explanation) and so many of the lines are brilliant. Stoker really did his research and it's a lot of fun to see where a lot of traditional vampire lore got its start. Dracula is a stunning character and an engrossing read. It suffers from some of the literary issues of its age, but those are easy to ignore. If you're buying a copy, I highly recommend the "Essential Dracula" edited by Leonard Wolf; his notes enrich the already unforgettable experience tenfold.
